Teachers are making $11.85 an hour.
They have more responsibilities and they’re paying more attention to students.
And they’re also earning more per pupil, according to the latest data from the National Center for Education Statistics.
They’re also making more money, as well, which is helping pay for their pensions and health insurance.
And that, combined with a national shortage of teachers, is making teachers feel pretty good about their jobs.
But what happens when they’re not working and your kids aren’t learning?
The good news is that there’s a solution.
The bad news is, it’s expensive.
That’s because the U.S. is one of the most expensive countries in the world for teacher salaries.

A total of 3.1 million American teachers are currently teaching in districts with under 1,000 students.
About one in five of those teachers are part of the 1.5 million teachers who work in private schools.
In other words, just 1.3 percent of teachers work in schools that are either in need of a new teacher or need to expand their school.
And when it comes to teaching, the problem is even worse.
As of the latest count, only 9.3 million American students are learning in the classroom.

When we look at teacher shortages and teacher retention, it is clear that we have a problem that is far more serious than we’ve been making public,” said Jennifer A. DePinto, assistant secretary for education for education policy and programs.
“The United States needs to do more to recruit and retain highly qualified teachers, who are needed for the workforce to grow and to create a better future for every American child.
And, we must also invest in improving teacher training and workforce development.”
